Venezuela Is In Turmoil But Foreign Intervention Is Unlikely

Why should developments in Venezuela, a country 14,000 km away, be of any interest to India?  Venezuela was until some years ago, a major supplier of oil to India.  There were around 200 Indian families there until political turmoil and instability saw most of them leave.  The US has ‘recognised’ an opposition leader as that country’s president even though Nicolas Maduro holds that office.  In this interview with India’s former ambassador to Venezuela, Smita Purushottam,  SNI brings you background and a perspective on developments there.
