Ireland's PM Leo Varadkar spends his New Year in his ancestral Indian village
Leo Varadkar is the Prime Minister of Ireland. He is the Taoiseach since June 2017 in Ireland. A Taoiseach is the prime minister and head of government of Ireland. The Taoiseach is appointed by the President upon the nomination of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (parliament), and must, to remain in office, retain the support of a majority in the Dáil.
He belongs to the Fine Gael. Fine Gael is a liberal-conservative political party of Ireland. Fine Gael is currently the governing and largest party in Ireland.
Little known fact is that he has his roots in India. On December 29, 2019, he visited his ancestral village Varad in the coastal Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra.
He will spend time there and ring in the new year in his ancestral town.
He called this visit a “special moment”. Interestinly, three generations of his family had gathered at Varad to welcome him., And, the villagers had gathered to felicitate him. He also visited a temple of the village deity.
