If Freedom of Expression is more important to you than Right to Life, you are not an activist, you are a Psychopath.
Over 45,000 people have been killed in Kashmir from 1988 to 2019 in Jammu & Kashmir, as per the South Asian Terrorism portal. In 1990, 300,000 to 600,000 Hindus were living in Kashmir Valley. In 2016, that number had reduced to 2000-3000. So, at least 297,000 to 598,000 Kashmiri Pandits had been either killed or thrown out of the Valley.
62,000 families were registered as Kashmiri refugees as per the Indian Government.
So when Kannan Gopinathan, the IAS officer from Kerala working in Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli resigned because of the communications of 7 million residents of the Kashmir Valley was cut off, one needs to put this kind of senseless activism in context.
Some reality check
Let us cut the crap, as it were, and look at the reality. In the last 3 weeks, Pakistan has openly threatened terrorist attacks on India.
There is credible evidence that stone pelters in India have been financed by Pakistan by various means.
Further, there is also credible evidence that Pakistan has used fake images, reports, and sites to incite hate, violence, and terror in Kashmir Valley.
“We have been fact-checking since November 2016,” the Boom Live managing editor tweeted on Monday. “Never before has one incident taught us so many things about new forms of #fakeimages.”…
…. After the attack, misinformation ballooned on social media, as it almost always does following big breaking news events. False posts, images and videos spread on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp.
The Indian Army has noted this and caught Pakistani establishment in this act as well.
Now, let us put this all together.
Pakistan has a history of financing stone pelters and launching terror attacks on India as well as history of using fake reports and images on social media to incite hate and violence in Kashmir. And, in the aftermath of India’s revocation of Article 370, it has – at an official level (no less than Prime Minister, Ministers and below) – has threatened India with terrorist attacks. Categorically saying that “it will go to any extent”.
If you were the administrator of this region, what will you first do to save lives from terror attacks and sponsored stone-pelting?
Stop the internet and other communications! Duh!!
When a state through terror attacks has caused over 4 times more deaths than in the biggest India-Pakistan war of 1971, and has now openly threatened to do just that on an unprecedented scale – are you so spectacularly dense that you care more about usage of the same medium of communication used to cause those deaths, over peoples’ lives themselves?!
If you are, then shame on you! You aren’t an activist. You are a psychopath.
If Freedom of Expression is more important to you than Right to Life, then something is fundamentally off with your basic value system. You don’t need to just resign. You need to check into a mental asylum and a rehab center to treat your psychopathic tendencies.
