How long did this fish come!
I got this story in an email from a friend. He is an avid boating and fishing enthusiast and likes to visit this forum started by the manufacturer of his boat. I found it fascinating that this fish could make its way across the Atlantic and was found two and a half years later on the American East coast.. all the way from Spain! Amazing!
Well the 42" bluefin I caught on March 18th, 2007 had a tag in it. The fish was tagged on November 13th, 2004 in the Strait of Gibraltar, Spain. There were 855 days between catches and 3,850 miles. The fish was first measured at 26". It was tagged by Ortiz de Urbina for the Institute Espanol de Oceanografia. There was no data for age or sex. I’d like to know how many miles it put on in that 2 and 1/3 years. From my understanding, not many tagged fish are recaptured let alone recaptured across the ocean from where it was tagged.
