First woman Army officer court martialed
Now that the women officers are in the Indian Defense services, it seems they are not doing as good as one might have thought they would. Which is a shame. Several of them have been called because of professional impropriety or corruption.
The first Indian Army officer (Captain Poonam Kaur) was Court Martialed because of several charges. She faced 21 charges. The charges included:
wrongfully getting married accommodation allotted
having an improper relationship with her driver
disobeying orders,
levelling false allegations against her superiors
communicating service matters to the media
She had accused her CO (Commanding officer) and Second in Command of sexally harrasing her (while she was making merry with the driver??). This was while she was ASC (Army Service Corps Battalion) at Kalka near Chandigarh. She had also alleged that a senior officer had molested her in Nagrota near Jammu.
This is really bad news for Army because when women start using their feminity as a plea in an inherently mischievious and false case, then the organization suffers as a whole.
Indian Air Force had dismissed Flying Officer Anjali Gupta 3 years ago for indiscipline. While Major Dimple Singla, (Army’s legal branch), had faced a court martial for allegedly demanding bribes during trials by the military court (the trial is still not complete). If you find yourself in a similar situation to this, you could consider contacting a court martial attorney to help you legally throughout the case. Having a strong defense on your side is important to ensure your case is fought effectively.
With just 1100 women officers out of 35.377 officers in the Army, one would think that they wouldn’t be so prominent in the corruption. And moreover, women are expected to be at a higher standard of behavior than the men – (gender bias??)… well, at least the Defense officers as a whole are supposed to be better than the society – where corruption rages. I don’t know, maybe the Army is actually a reflection of the mores of our society now.
