Eating less leads to better memory
Eating just enough is a smart thing. Eating more just because you can – given the wealth and access – doesn’t mean you are healthy. But that is how the society is progresses. Prosperity somehow, inexplicably directly translates into overeating and obesity (remember the Roman Emperors?).
Now, a study suggests that eating less – or low calorie intake – and foods rich in unsaturated fatty acids (commonly found in Olive Oil and Fish) leads to significantly better memory in the elderly.
In an experiment conducted by Dr. A. Veronica Witte and colleagues from University of Munster, shows that when three groups were created:
1. restricted by up to 30 percent the amount of calories they consumed;
2. increased their consumption of unsaturated fatty acids by up to 20 percent;
3. serving as the control group, made no changes
The first group showed 20% increase in verbal memory scores after 3 months.
Therefore, eat less and enjoy a healthier life.. that you can remember to enjoy! 🙂
