Earthquakes and Icelandic Volcano

As freak an incident as Icelandic volcanic eruption may have been, it goes to show what weather and nature gone haywire can do to our best laid out plans.

For many these were vacation plans.  Airlines are losing in milliions!  And people are suffering at the airports.. where there is no respite.

While the commercial flight cancellations have made news, no one has really noticed that Fighter Jets have also been rendered useless.  They cannot fly.  Their engines are even more sensitive than the commercial jets…. so the US and British jets in the European airspace are .. well.. sitting ducks!

Imagine what could be done during such times by terrorist groups?

Also, I am not sure whether we have noticed or not, but some upheaval is going on in the center of the earth and its plates.  There has been an unusually large number of Earthquakes in the last 2-3 years.  The area of the largest such activity has been the Pacific area specifically in the South East Asia (even in China), but it has spread to the American side where a big earthquake hit Haiti and in the Mexico/California region.

Some of the earthquakes have been in inhabited areas but these are not the most populous (except the Chinese earthquake).  Things can get worse, if say, an earthquake happens in North India – say near Delhi.  The destruction will be unimaginable.  And according to the experts, an earthquake in the foothills of Himalayas is waiting to happen.  It might actually happen within the next few years…. and given the low quality of construction, it might mean a LOT of loss of lives.
