Does the Unprecedented UN Security Council Statement give India the Go-ahead to Attack Pakistan?
After the Pulwama Attack, many nations are condemning the attacks and terrorism. France, New Zealand, South Africa have directly done that. Saudi Arabia condemned terror but due to its relationship with Pakistan (Pakistan’s ex-Army Chief, Rahil Sharif defends Saudi Arabia against ISIS), it did not name Pakistan directly.
But what seems most interesting is that today the United Nation’s Security Council has gone ahead and released a strong condemnation. Until now, China has always vetoed anything to do with Pakistan. Including declaring Masood Azhar, the Jaish-e-Mohammad Chief, as a terrorist and most wanted man. But today it did not do any of those things.
The statement was clear. It named Jaish-e-Mohammad by name.
“The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly suicide bombing in Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in over 40 Indian paramilitary forces dead and dozens wounded on February 14, 2019, for which Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed responsibility,” a press statement issued by the UNSC body said.
The statement added that members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
For many, this may seem like a normal standard statement. But then comes the real crux.
“The members of the Security Council underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice, and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of India and all other relevant authorities in this regard,” it said.
Bring them to JUSTICE. Not just the perpetrators and organizers. But even the financiers and sponsors. Bring them all to justice.
This is extremely significant.
When US wanted to attack Iraq, USA’s Secretary of State Colin Powell had made a case in front of the United Nation’s Security Council to get its acquiescence. Remember that?
Getting UNSC on board to back you up in case you want to attack another country is a major deal. Colin Powell had to do a whole lot of drama!
In India’s case, however, Sushama Swaraj, worked with France, who spearheaded the whole initative, as it will on banning JeM despite China.
India’s strategic partner France took initiative in moving the statement, sources told ET. France will also soon move a resolution to ban Jaish chief by UNDSC.
In any such move in the UN for launching attacks, it is always France which plays the dove and has been the biggest headache for the US negotiators! What a reversal of ways!
That the condemnation came from United Nations Security Council is not a small ‘matter-of-fact’ thing. This is a green light by the comity of nations and the most powerful group in the world to India to launch its attacks.
The resolution is unequivocal in how the UNSC members see the terror attack.
With this statement, UN Security council has admitted that India can do what it needs to do to combat Jaish-e-Mohammad, its sponsors and financiers. All India needs to do now is to prove that Pakistan is the sponsor of JeM.
With the next statement and initiative coming from a strong EU champion, France, that may be the next goal.
This will set the stage for India to go ahead and launch its strikes, possibly in alliance with some other countries – like Israel. Who knows even maybe France!
We are looking at an era and a response, which India has never attempted. Heck, no one outside of US or Russia has ever attempted. And, maybe the appetite of the world for Pakistan’s machinations is about over!
And, just btw, those who were denouncing the Rafale deal – which was between the two governments of India and France – may want to note that maybe, just maybe, the price for Rafale bought India FAR MORE than just those jets! Modi may have financed the complete annihilation of Pakistan – without using the jets – itself! How’s that for a deal?
It is time to sit up and get even more united. It is time to do what has never been done by India. Attack so comprehensively that the enemy is completely destroyed.
