British contingent in India to pay homage to barbarians of 1857 War
War is a strange situation. Both sides kill and both fight. Strangely, both feel their rationale is justified. IN 1857, the First War of Indian Independence was fought. At that time the Indian sepoys rose up against their British Masters and fought for freedom. Some Brits were killed and after the Indian contingent lost the war, many of the Indians were tortured and killed!
Now, some Brits are in India to pay homage to the British soldiers who died in that war. Indians are mad – specifically the BJP. Is it insensitive of these visitors – HECK yes! It is as if a group of Germans went to Paris to pay homage to Nazis killed in the war with France! Well, someone died in that war too. Is it good or bad to pay homage in a place where the citizens were tortured and treated sub-humanely?
Instead of the usual BJP-style idiotic confrontation, it should be equated to the Nazi example! For the ruthless and barbarism of both the proponents after the war was equal in savagery! Arguments, and correct as well as rational arguments are required …. not nonsensical jumping around in anger.
A group of retired British soldiers and civilians visiting India have caused outrage during their trip to pay homage at sites where British soldiers died during the 1857 revolt against colonial rule.
Hundreds of Hindu nationalists protested on Monday against the planned visit by the group to the site of the Siege of Lucknow, one of the key events of what is known in India as the First War of Independence and in Britain as the Sepoy Mutiny.
