Anand is the Chess World Champion
While we Indians keep talking about cricket and its stars we forget that we have probably achieved far more in some other sports with far less resources! One of the sport where we have done well recently, thanks to one man Army, is Chess. Vishwanathan Anand is the World Chess Champion.
Today he successfully defended his title against Vladimir Kramnik. The defeat to Kramnik was fairly comprehensive – 6.5-4.5 in a 12 game match.
Interestingly, Anand wasn’t shy about asserting his supremacy on chess as well in the post match talk:
“I’m happy. But, at this point, probably more relieved than happy, because I was undisputed World champion even before this match,” Anand said in Bonn.
Fairly interesting to see the Central Asian/Russian dominance being challenged and beaten in the game of Chess – a game that was invented in … India!
